Document Summary

Feedback response from the receiver directly to the sender. Linear model of mass communication: stimulation- sender has idea for a message, encoding- sender forms message, transmission- sender delivers it, decoding- receiver translates it. Message has to be fully transmitted: reception- completed decoding fully, called linear model because each step follows the one before it (like a straight line) Semantic noise- inability of the receiver to understand the language that is being used in the message. Ex) reading a book in english and then all of a sudden spanish words appear. Indigenous- originating or occurring naturally in a particular place (native) People process symbols differently depending on their experiences. Selective perception- filters influence how you interpret messages. Selective exposure- people tend to choose messages that reinforce what they already think and believe. Selective retention- people tend to remember only messages/parts of messages they strongly agree with or strongly disagree with.
