Aural rehabilitation/habilitation: those efforts designed to help a deaf or hard of hearing person adjust to the hearing loss, or to alleviate the effects of the hearing loss. Males at all ages are more likely than females to be deaf or hard-of-hearing. Prevalence of hearing loss at all ages decreases as family income increases. Prevalence of hearing loss is greater at all ages among people who live in rural areas. Of the 20 million people in the us with hearing loss, 3 out of 4 experienced onset of loss after age 18. Of this 20 million, approximately 5% reported a prelingual hearing loss. However, this same age group accounts fro 37% of the total population of. Individuals who are 65+ currently equal 12. 8% of the us population individuals with hearing loss. People who feel they are not coping adequately with their hearing loss.
