Document Summary

Tissues-a group of cells with the same origin, structure, and function. Organ-a group of two or more tissue types organized to carry out certain functions. Organ system-two or more organs organized to carry out particular function or functions. Characterized by having a large amount of ecm (extracellular matrix)-living cells in nonliving cell matrix. Ecm proteins-carbohydrate soup-things can move and get to and from the cells. Collagen-gives tissue strength, a lot in tendons, arteries, under skin. Elastin-found in lungs and arteries, these tissues get stretched and recoil. Blood-the ecm of the blood is the plasma. Loose ct-soft ecm, provides padding-reticular ct and adipose tissue. Supportive ct-firm ecm, functions in structural support and protection-bone and cartilage. Glial cells-supportive cells-physically and chemically support the neurons. Information is transmitted form dendrites to the cell body to the axon. Neurotransmitters stored in vesicles at the end of the axon. Synapse-the gap between the axon and another neurons dendrites.
