Document Summary

12. 1 mendel"s experiments and the laws of probability. Johann gregor mendel studied pea plants and the inheritance of traits. Mendel was the first researcher to recognize this: discontinuous variation: traits that are inherited in distinct classes (ex. flower color); traits can be passed on. Hybridization: mating two true-breeding individuals that have different traits: p0: plants used in the first generation crosses, f1: the first generation of offspring, f2: the second generation of offspring; the result of crosses of f1. Trait: a variation in the physical appearance of a heritable characteristic. Reciprocal cross: a paired cross in which the respective traits of the male and female in one cross become the respective traits of the female and male in the other cross. Iv: mendel used this to verify that the same ratio of traits was found in offspring, regardless of which parent had which traits. Dominant traits: those that are inherited unchanged in a hybridization; the trait that is expressed.
