NURS 371 Lecture Notes - Lecture 19: Vascular Resistance, Mannitol, Peripheral Edema
Document Summary
Loop diuretics: work on loop of henle: lasix: inhibits electric transport in ascending limb of loop of henle. Eat foods high in k if not on k replacement. Can be predisposed to digoxin toxicity: bumex: stronger than lasix. Educate dietary restrictions: avoid salt and salt substitutes. Beta blockers: olol : beta 1- work on heart, beta 2- works on lungs. Cannot give to someone with asthma: always check hr, bp. Block beta 1 more than 2- work primarily on heart. Nonselective: effect beta 1 and beta 2. Prevents the production of angiotensin ii from angiotensin i. Angiotensin 2 is one of the most potent vasoconstrictors. Drug of choice with diuretics with pts who have chronic chf. Pts can develop orthostatic htn, dry cough, angioedema (medical emergency) Ace is found in the lungs which is why there is a dry cough. Inhibit ca from crossing cardiac and smooth muscle cells.
