PERI 8120 Lecture Notes - Lecture 44: Insulin Resistance, Adipocyte, Adipose Tissue
Document Summary
Lecture 10: tam chronic disease and nutrition. Define and identify risk factors for chronic disease. Like how a freight train takes forever to get rolling, but also difficult to stop once it"s moving. Risk factors attributes or exposures that increase chances of an outcome. Social determinants of health knowledge of how to be healthy. Some individuals have head start vs others based on socioeconomic status, location, etc. Overall, individual risk shaped by both nature and nurture. Differentiate between public health implications for prevention and treatment of chronic disease. Preventing saves a great deal more money than treatment. And again, for chronic disease, once it"s set, it"s hard to fix. Explain the hypothesized relationship between adiposity and insulin resistance. Sat (subcutaneous adipose tissue) is thought to have a more physical, mechanistic effect on the body mobility issues. Vat (visceral adipose tissue) is thought to have a more metabolic effect on body. Increases risk for chronic diseases more than sat.
