Document Summary

It"s hard for bacteria and fungi to grow on skin because it"s dry, high in salt, and the oil glands secrete antimicrobial chemicals. Very few organisms are adapted to grow and live on skin. Face, armpits, and other places that are most have millions of bacteria on them. Drier areas of skin such as the forearm have a small amount of bacteria on them. Propionibacterium acne causes acne and provides flavor to swiss cheese. Causes an infection in the hair follicles. 16s rrna is the barcode for life. Only obligate and facultative anaerobes live there. Microbe biome is the microbial population in the gut. Germfree animals are colonies of animals in sterile isolators. They are born and raised in a sterile chamber. Urine, feces, and hair are gathered to test to make sure that a germfree environment is maintained. You repopulate your gut with good bacteria. Vitamin k was only discovered because it"s required in germfree animals.
