BIOL 207 Lecture Notes - Lecture 5: Pubic Symphysis, Medullary Cavity, Hyaline Cartilage
Document Summary
Blood production occurs in bone marrow triglyceride storage yellow bone marrow. Bones produce hormone called osteocalcin stimulates insulin production reduces fat storage long bones longer than wide. Cube shaped as short as wide short bones flat bones irregular and vertebral. Long bones are composed of compact and spongy bone. Thin, flat and curved spongy in middle and compact on the outside short, flat, irregular trabeculae. Has medullary cavity filled with yellow marrow. No medullary cavity surface covered by articular cartilage. Epiphyseal line located b/w diaphysis and epiphysis cartilage. Bone covered by connective tissue layer called perichondrium covered by connective tissue layer called periosteum. Extend into interior of bone through holes ( nutrient formanes) All babies have red marrow located in flat and irregular bone yellow. Bones filled with fat to form yellow marrow. When osteoblasts become trapped in bony matrix. Made up of central blood vessel and lamellae (layers) of bone around blood vessel.
