BIOL 207 Lecture Notes - Lecture 11: Leukopoiesis, Central Canal, Gross Anatomy
Document Summary
Red bone marrow - found in cancellous (spongy) bone. Classi cations of bone: long bones - any bones that are longer than they are wide, short bones: Sesamoid - oval shaped, on tendons: at bones - thin layers of compact bones with cancellous bone in the middle, i. e; sternum, ribs, scapula. Epiphysis (contains large amount of cancellous bone) Endosteum (sparse layer of reticular connective tissue membrane covering internal bone surfaces & trabeculae of cancellous bone: short bones: Deposition - depositing more minerals, stimulants that make osteoblasts, make body deposit more minerals. Reabsorption - when body needs minerals it goes through circulation. Tubular reabsorption - minerals, amino acids, etc. picked up by capillaries: functional stress: Bone grows or remodels in response to the forces or demands placed on it. Parathormone - produced by parathyroid, promotes increase in calcium levels of the blood, change is brought about by osteoclasts.
