Document Summary

Turing or growing of the growth cone involves regulated changes in the actin and microtubule skeleton. Growth cone is sensing a chemoattractant ligand (+ signals) The(cid:396)e"s (cid:373)o(cid:396)e o(cid:374) o(cid:374)e side tha(cid:374) the othe(cid:396) The g(cid:396)o(cid:449)th (cid:272)o(cid:374)e is o(cid:396)ga(cid:374)izi(cid:374)g it"s a(cid:272)ti(cid:374) a(cid:374)d p(cid:396)o(cid:373)oti(cid:374)g (cid:373)i(cid:272)(cid:396)otu(cid:271)ule g(cid:396)o(cid:449)th. We have to have the receptor trigger intracellular signaling to reorganize the actin. This can happen in a very localized way in one part of the growth cone. In a spatial localized way, we have a receptor signaling through affectors that mediate changes to the actin cytoskeleton. This slide is showing some examples of affectors of changes in actin cytoskeleton. Some of the major affectors of actin cytoskeleton are proteins called gtpases (rho, rac, Cdc42) which are commonly used to organize actin in all cells. Gap and gef are important for mediating axon guidance. There are more mutltiple signaling molecules that can be used but these are the most common slide 5.
