Media bombards viewers with information via tv, newspapers, internet, smartphones etc. Agenda setting- media defines important issues through its choices of what to present. Media pays more attention to certain stories and less attention to others. Framing- media determines the way news is presented. Media effects researchers study the power of the way information is put together and the effects this has in the minds of media consumers. Frames of reference- a person"s perceptions of the world. Prospect theory- depends on point of reference of info given. Attribution theory- people simplify their perceptions of social reality by making judgements about what causes others to act. Attribution: how people make sense of their social reality. People trying to explain how the media but individuals attribute the causes of homelessness. When you attribute the problem to something rather than something else it reflects a frame. Frame analysis- rely on socially shared meanings to categorize info into schemas or primary frameworks.
