Suppose i want to tell you about a movie. We both know the same language and film jargon. Communicate through universal, standardized mechanisms like ratings or symbols. Need not share language but some detail is lost. In a tightly-coupled system, the components are designed and integrated with knowledge of: Allows very efficient communication but if any of the above change, the whole system must follow. In a loosely-coupled system, communication happens through standard interfaces. Only specify formats of inputs and outputs. Hardware & software flexibility as long as it conforms to the interface. Isolation: changes to one part of the system do not directly affect others. Tiers can be scaled independently, e. g. , more data or more clients. Customers are not the only users of amazon"s transaction processing system. As noted earlier, several other groups are involved in each transaction: Their systems must also interface with the transaction system to exchange notifications. An invoice object is built from the ordered items.
