Issue of immigration and idea that some people have floated america as being a nation of immigrants. America is a nation of immigrants because when one talks about slavery, slavery is very different than immigration. When one talks about america as exceptional, that narrative is in conflict with the history of slavery. The representation of slavery in media is often inconsistent with the actual facts.
