Us are #1 consumers and therefore produce most trash. We throw away about 6lbs trash every year. Mitigations of climate change, trends for solid waste generation are linked to this. The richer you are, the more waste you produce. Asia"s waste consumption has increased a lot in a short amount of time. A population increase would cause per capita to also increase. Per capita: pounds per person per day. Landfills are a poor solution because there is a shortage of land in places where lots of trash is produced. 12. 8*% incineration, combustion with energy recovery (33 million tons) Plastic- 12. 6%-light but occupy a lot of space. Reasons they are difficult to throw away-same reasons we use it as reliable material. Thermoplastic-if you heat they become malleable, property of linear or branched. Thermoset will not change shape, these are cross-linked and non-recyclable. Flammable-made out of oil, allows us to produce heat and electricity. Most do not readily decompose in natural environment.
