Document Summary

Human development- scientific study of changes in people from conception to death: longitudinal design- basically track a sample from an early age to an older age. Ex: start with a group of 2 year olds nad follow them for 20 years. Scientists tested 1000 kids, and saw how marijuana affected iq, heavy use caused them to lose a few points. Its expensive, needs a lot of time, and people can leave= cons. Good data quality= pro: cross- sectional design- test samples of different age groups as opposed to following one sample as they age. Need to assume that different people from different age groups will/have cognitively developed in the same manner= Cohort effect= something happened to a sample of 7 year olds which did not happen to a sample of 15 year olds, and thus the 7 year olds will cognitively develop differently than the 15 year olds did.
