Document Summary

To be morally responsible for an act is to deserve blame and maybe punishment (if the act was bad) or praise and possibly reward (if the act was good). This is the kind of blame or punishment that would be justi ed even if it brought about no social bene ts. Zimbardo our situation rather than our character often determines (or heavily in uences) our actions. So we can"t be free and morally responsible. Strawson it doesn"t matter how much the situation in uences us because we don"t have control over our character either. Everything about us ultimately does down to luck. So, we can"t be free and morally responsible. Whatever situation we are in, our character will determine our impulses and attitudes, etc. We aren"t ultimately responsible for our character or our situation. So we cannot be responsible for our behavior.
