Alabama, and Arizona, the public continues to hold distrust for the government as a whole.
Paradoxically, local police believe that the public should cooperate in its efforts to uphold the
laws of the jurisdiction when they have been enacted against the desire against a sizeable portion
of the population. In Georgia alone, there are estimated to be 480,000 undocumented
immigrants, nearly a half million—these along with the legal immigrants, employers, co-
workers, friends, and supporters of less strict immigration practices within the state and nation
can not be expected to assist in the work which they vocally do not support in the United States,

An unfortunate addition to the plague of recent immigration laws comes from the state of
Indiana, a state in the mid-western United States. Indiana is an enigma in the cluster of states
which have recently adopted new strict immigration laws due to its location in the near-middle of
the United States. This begs the question of the real concern of the adoption of the recent
legislation. Homeland security? Unemployment? The economy? None of these explain the
implementation of immigration reform in the United States mid-west. Imagine the implications
US citizens, who are properly documented face upon harassment from local law enforcement due
to the legislation passed giving local law enforcement the responsibility to question their national
identity barring possible detention upon the occurrence of a mere traffic violation. While certain
sections of the Indiana immigration reform legislation have been blocked from lawsuits from the
American Civil Liberties Union and the Obama Administration, civilly and federally
respectively, the impacts of its institution are real, inciting fear and distrust among much of the
