Stars as a brand (using famous actors to help promote the film rather than what the movie was about) Fancy word for a simple idea: few companies controlling the entire industry. Paramount, mgm, warner bros, rko, 20th century fox. Continuity editing three important people melies, porter, griffith. Worked out how to make/project animated images. Worked out how to institutionalize and sell. Single thing: no pieces, end, breaks or seams. Joining different shots to create an illusion of unified space and time.
