Document Summary
Chapter explores the basic theories about group interaction and how it shapes our social world. Social groups form the building blocks of society and most social interaction. Most intimate form of social life because two members are mutually dependent on each other. Don"t need to be concerned about how their relationship will be perceived by a third party. Symmetry must be maintained- because of mutual dependence. Group exerts no supra-individual control over the individuals involved (don"t ever really say i was just following orders, etc) Group is not dependant on one particular member. Father walks out on family but the family still exists. Politics and multiple points of view- 3 basic forms of political relations that can evolve within a triad depending on what role the entering third party assumes. Mediator- person who tries to resolve conflict between the other two. Tertius gaudens- profits from the disagreement of the other two.
