If yugoslavia ever did come apart, nationalism would become very important. Kosovo, southern part of serbian republic, tito granted it autonomous republic. Albanian muslims = majority, christian serbians = minority. Serbian national mythology goes back, so kosovo is considered heartland and historic territory to serbians. Battle in 1389 - serbian national mythology states: Serbian prince lazarr fought ottoman turks & died there bc he refused to convert to islam, became martyr, rises to heaven and is seen as christ-like. Identifying and addressing mood of victimization among serbs. Travelled to pray before lazar"s relics & gathered in field where battle took place. Racist nationalism, directed towards catholic croats, muslims in bosnia. Serbs were destined to experience genocide again if they did not take arm themselves & take proactive measures to stop them. Serbian people reenacted many things that were present during wwii. Military in wwii, called chetniks, that came to kill muslims. Yugoslav army was supposed to represent all 6 republics.
