Causes of congenital deafness: genetic factors, deafness does run in families, pretty sure it is a recessive gene -- both parents have normal hearing (about 90% of deaf children have hearing parents, rubella. Issues with vaccination: prematurity, low birth weight, at risk for hearing loss, cmv = cytomeglovirus -- children born with this can have hearing loss. It is difficult for most people who are deaf to gauge the pitch or volume of their voice.
