Population of animals that the disease lives. Example: raccoons - rabies (slowly infects them, will only start to see it when one advances in the disease) A disease that humans and animals share - zoonotic diseases. Pathogens - living agents that cause disease in another organism. Pathogenicity - if an organism is capable of causing a disease. E. coli - common gut bacteria, however there are highly pathogenic strains that are deadly. Hot zone = high likelihood of causing disease. Contagious - how easily transmitted the pathogen is. Most, but not all infectious agents are contagious. Metabolic - not all are genetic, but some are. Nutritional - milk fever, not enough calcium to perform the metabolic process.
