PSYC 6 Lecture Notes - Lecture 10: Metacognition, Process Gain, Group Polarization
Document Summary
= shared expectations in a group about how particular people are supposed to behave: norms, cohesiveness. = qualities of a group that bind members together and promote mutual liking. Deindividuation = the loose(cid:374)i(cid:374)g of (cid:374)or(cid:373)al (cid:272)o(cid:374)strai(cid:374)ts o(cid:374) (cid:271)eha(cid:448)ior (cid:449)he(cid:374) people (cid:272)a(cid:374)"t (cid:271)e ide(cid:374)tified: makes people feel less accountable. Social facilitation the tendency for people to do better on simple tasks and worse on complex tasks when they are in the presence of others and their individual performance can be evaluated. Social loafing = when people are in the presence of others and their individual performance cannot be evaluated, the tendency to perform worse on simple or unimportant tasks but better on complex or important tasks. Collective effort model important, relevant, meaningful to achieve goals they value. Process loss = when a group performs worse than its potential. = any aspect of group interaction that inhibits good problem solving.
