Document Summary

Midterm: short answer, 1 essay question (pretty similar to the prompt regurgitate an argument/objection/then respond) Study guide will be given by friday -> no questions will be on the midterm that are not on the study guide. Main question: why does the universe and many of the things contained in it appear designed. The design argument is a posteriori: begins with the contingent fact about the universe that it exhibits order and (apparent) design. Video: the hidden life of the cell (see discussion slide) Perhaps hume is to naturalists as aquinas is to catholics. Although it is not clear that hume was an atheist or even an agnostic. Hume presents an argument from design (one that stems from earlier proponents of the design argument) but then proceeds to reject it. His is not a response to paley paley wrote about 20-30 years after hume"s dialogues.
