If present objects w/o the tacks in the box: people used the box to hold the candle (figured out very quickly, without much thought) Asked people to fix non invasive strep testing methods. Looked at three variables in who won the challenges: Expertise: expert vs. novice in certain domain. Highest odds of winning: outsiders those who used a low search variation and high effort. If you are an expert: you need to have high search variation and high effort. Multiple sources of information allowed them to think outside the box.
