Unique context of the family impacts on how the family system responds. Revisit the concepts of horizontal and vertical stressors: vertical context has to do with the emotional legacy of the family. Your grandfather dies, your father hated him and refuses to go to the funeral, years later, this will have meaning to you and you"ll look at issues within your own family. Death impacts on family members in unique and individual ways: the way other family members react to the deaths within your family impacts your development. Death can occur at any age: different impact when someone dies before they are elderly. Death reverberates throughout the entire family system: impacts the entire family system, like throwing a pebble in a pond and watching all of the waves.
