Discussion of the national divorce rate for first marriages. Divorce alters the trajectory of family development as well as individual development. 1 in 8 marriages end in divorce, we are often told half of marriages do which is why we hold a very negative view of. 70% of divorces occur within the first three years of marriage. Seventy-five percent of divorced women and 80% of divorced men remarry. > please note that these rates change dramatically for women as the age, men"s rates always stay higher. Note: what we are really focusing on is dissolution and disruption not divorce. Satisfaction versus distress: everyone is unhappy in their relationship at some time, but we usually hold onto some hope that there is hope for the relationship. Distress is a negative sentiment that overrides everything, there is no hope or future for the relationship. *alternatives: you"re more dependent if you do not have any alternatives.
