Countries grow from core area and expand over time. Core area generally contains the highest population densities and largest/most important cities: capital city is usually also the largest city, dominates the political, demographic, and economic, structure of a country (called primate city) Strong core regions: highly centralized governments, called unitary states as well, have power to redraw internal political boundaries for population redistribution. In united states, federal law is generally upheld: federal governments administer federal territories and lands. National parks in the us where state governments don"t have any rights to change these lands. Unitary states have the right to control the basic functions of society (economy, etc. ) where federal states only get involved in larger matters. Disputes that are not over the boundary itself but types of interactions that occur: like dealing with immigrants. Must be balanced against issues of environmental degradation and long-term sustainability. Receive higher incomes from their economic activities. Receive low incomes from their economic activities.
