Document Summary
Divergent plate boundaries - where plates are moving. Convergent plate boundaries - occur where tow plates are moving towards one another. When plates collide, heavier oceanic material is subducted under lighter, more bouyant continental material. Volcanic activity and volcanoes are distributed mainly along these plate boundaries. Transform boundaries - occur where one plate is sliding horizontally along the boundary of another. This is where many earthquakes form; along these faults. San andreas is one such transform fault where many earthquakes have occurred. Rift valley - the spreading apart of land area is a rift valley. Can result in new seas and ocean . Rift valley in africa resulted as madagascar rifted and split from africa and the red sea formed. Rock formation - rocks are classified by the way that it was formed. Can also be classified by mineral properties but this is not as common.
