Hunters and gatherers move around from one foraging area to another. Foraging means taking something that is already there, like a crop, but not adding one. It is also a synonym for hunting and gathering. We do not know if any hunters and gatherers survive solely off of hunting anymore. Hunter"s and gatherers do not have a lot of possessions. The local group or band is the highest level of political organization. They are egalitarian, which means that status differences are based only on age and sex. People in band societies do not defend territory or make war. Band society is ordered by the ties of kinship and marriage.
