• New years, one common way of doing it is doing it in a period of
ritual time ceremonies. Example of Indulgence. People engage in
consumption of alcohol and stay up and eat food late at night. Once
midnight arrives people make a lot of noise. Everything that is
tabooed by society is ritually acceptable at this time. Period of
sacrifice comes the next day when we make our new years resolution.

Everything that is tabooed by society is ritually acceptable at this time. Period of sacrifice comes the next day when we make our new years resolution. We sacrifice to be better; we renew ourselves and become better than we were before: mardi gras/ carnival- takes place in new orleans (heavily catholic places in the world) takes place over several weeks. Rich will dress like the poor and men will dress like women (vice versa).
