It reinforces the medical model because it portrays disability as an obstacle that disabled people need to overcome to reach their full potential. Writing exercise 2: use remen"s text to define and differentiate helping, fixing, and serving. In remen"s text, helping views the disabled person as weak and, thus, creates a power imbalance where the able bodied person is superior to the disabled bodied person, who is seen as weak and unable. An example is intent vs. impact where an individual might see someone with a mobility device, and instead of asking the person if they need assistance, they just go up to them and start pushing their wheelchair.
