SPC 1603H Lecture Notes - Lecture 5: Megan Washington
Document Summary
Business standpoint - impromptu happens very frequently. Rehearse it in such a way that it doesn"t sound rehearsed. Adapt cultural norms to audience, occasion, and room. We can use our voice to communicate a lot. We can vary our pitch, range, and rhythm. You should sound excited about your own speech. Be passionate and enthusiastic about what you are speaking about. Practice, on occasion, very slowly if you speak quickly. You will, over time, learn to slow it down. Vocal variety shows interest in topic and keeps audience engaged. Speak to the back of the room. Use your voice (don"t use announcer voice) Own who you are as a speaker. Move with purpose or plant your feet. Movement also allows you to see who is paying attention. If audience is not paying attention, you can move to the next point. Movement helps you adapt your speech better. Don"t get too close to the audience.
