Document Summary

Today we will talk about the greatest empire that ever appeared in north america: the aztec. Cuitlahuac 1520-1521: how it rose/ became so powerful, how this great empire fell. *(aztecs never called themselves aztecs but that"s what the europeans labeled them as) the aztecs called themselves meshica (mexico) The god promises the aztecs that if they do this their decedents will establish a great empire (this aztec origin myth is very similar to the myths of other empirical people like the romans) The aztecs believed they were the chosen people, their success was all part of a divine plan, they were fulfilling their destiny. When the aztecs got their the people already there were not happy. So the aztecs were constantly attacked by their more powerful neighbors and bc of this they were unable to find a permanent home in the valley of mexico.
