Sex and gender: sex, a biological classification based on genetic composition, anatomy and hormones, gender, a psychological and social phenomenon; how feminine or masculine are defined in a given culture. Gender roles: societal expectations for normal and appropriate female and male behaviors, sources, children watch and imitate behaviors of others, receive rewards/punishments for gender role behaviors. Development of gender roles: toddler, recognize and label boys and girls, preschool, same sex peers; distinguish between appropriate play for girls and boys, school age, identify gender appropriate careers. Gender identity: people"s personal view of themselves as male or female. Gender dysphoria : when biological sex and gender identity differ, not all individuals whose biological sex and gender identity differ choose to be transgender. Gender differences: emotion: age 2 , girls talk about emotions and boys talk more about anger, women are better at identifying facial expressions of emotion, adolescent girls and women more prone to depression and anxiety.
