All spoke communications contain both implicit and explicit information. Explicit is when message is being stated directly. Implicit is tone, body language, non-verbal cues conveying important aspects of the message. People in cultures where there is lots of shared interactions and communication = more implicit communication. People give cues regarding their emotional states, often they don"t even recognize it. Primed to identify certain facial expressions especially those related to threat. Culture specific rules on what people are expected to do when interacting. Ways to elicit responses for babies; only way they can really communicate early on. Decode = interpret non-verbal behaviors of others. Darwin - recognized facial expressions in many cultures - not language. When studying, you want to go to a culture that"s very different, so that you can see if the facial expressions are similar/different. Gestures are often quite different, but emotions are not. There are 6 universal emotions: joy, anger, sadness, surprise, fear, and disgust.
