Paricipaion was direct; as a ciizen you did not have people represening you, you were directly involved. Public not private liberty freedom was a collecive, not an individual moion; is. Freedom of the community self-government greece is free if greece governs it. Reasons for collecive freedom: constant war; they depended on one another. Lack of commerce (it was done by slaves) led to much leisure ime in which they could discuss their collecive issues. Also the lack of commerce led to a lack of individual independence; in athens commerce was much more used and people valued it because they could get what they wanted by their own means: without government intervenion.
