Document Summary

From book: life on earth is solar powered. Everything we need are powered by the sun. Heterotrophs (consumers: obtain organic compounds from other organisms) To convert everything is from the energy of the sun. Chlorophyll is jam packed and it absorbs the light but it doesn"t absorb green. Light sensitive chlorophyll molecules called pigments capture the light of specific wavelengths. This is the absorption spectrum for an unknown pigment molecule. Thus, in photosynthesis the electrons increase in potential energy as they move from water to sugar. This requires energy input, which is provided by solar energy. Absorption of a photon boosts and electron to an orbital (shell) of higher energy. The electron that is being hit in the picture is chlorophyll. Chlorophyll is the main pigment in the thylakoid membrane. Atp provides chemical energy and nadph provides reducing power for the calvin cycle. They strip h2o electrons to create a h^+ gradient.
