Document Summary

Levels of analysis in biology and size range: Structured water because it is not entirely free. Carbon based compounds (rest of the cell) : iron is essential for red blood cells. Compound: molecule made up of two or more element combined in a fixed ratio. Properties of compound are completely different than atoms themselves. Atoms combine and form molecules and compounds by forming chemical bonds. Covalent: sharing of electrons by two atoms. Ionic: transfer of electrons between two atoms. Hydrogen bond: the h atom forms one covalent bond and a second weaker bond. Intermolecular: bond that forms between two different molecules. Oxygen has a lot of protons which attract the electrons. Electrons spend more time closer to oxygen than hydrogen. The h atom form one covalent bond and a second weaker bond with an atom in another molecule. Two h atoms are covalently bonded to one o atom. O has a partial negative charge; attracts electrons.
