● Happy accident a lot of people had tuberculosis
○ Removed those people from society
○ Found iproniazid and isoniazid developed as a TB treatment
■ Patients were up out of bed, feeling energetic
● TB wasn’t any better
○ Turned out to be antidepressant
● Ipro and Iso helps build up amount of neurotransmitter in synapse
○ Stopping neurotransmitter from being removed from the synapse
■ More neurotransmitter you have, stronger signal will be
● Dopamine, norepinephrine, and epinephrine all come from Tyrosine
○ Tyrosine is precursor molecule that comes from protein
● Serotonin comes from tryptophan
● Norepinephrine goes to amygdala, hypothalamus, prefrontal cortex, cingulate cortex,
goes all over cortex
● Dopamine starts in the same place but stops at prefrontal cortex, also has a separate
pathway that goes straight to striatum
○ Amygdala, hypothalamus, cingulate, frontal cortex
● Serotonin has a bigger starting point and starts lower, goes everywhere
● They all start in similar places, all touch similar places
● Perseverance is when you get stuck in prefrontal cortex about not
knowing/understanding how you feel
○ Not knowing what to do with emotions
● Dopamine is anhedonia pathway
Document Summary
Happy accident a lot of people had tuberculosis. Found iproniazid and isoniazid developed as a tb treatment. Patients were up out of bed, feeling energetic. Ipro and iso helps build up amount of neurotransmitter in synapse. Stopping neurotransmitter from being removed from the synapse. More neurotransmitter you have, stronger signal will be. Dopamine, norepinephrine, and epinephrine all come from tyrosine. Tyrosine is precursor molecule that comes from protein. Norepinephrine goes to amygdala, hypothalamus, prefrontal cortex, cingulate cortex, goes all over cortex. Dopamine starts in the same place but stops at prefrontal cortex, also has a separate pathway that goes straight to striatum. Serotonin has a bigger starting point and starts lower, goes everywhere. They all start in similar places, all touch similar places. Perseverance is when you get stuck in prefrontal cortex about not knowing/understanding how you feel. Not knowing what to do with emotions. Lots of norepinephrine in brain enhances memory. Serotonin loss is obsessive sense of grief, perseverance.
