Study of aids patients and members of high risk groups-- isolates. 1987-clinical trial of azt( rst effective anti hiv drug) 2 classes of studies: descriptive studies-describe disease in populations. Identify new diseases and suggest hypotheses of the causes. Analytical studies-seek to explain the causes of diseases. Descriptive studies lead to analytical studies: more detailed investigations. Prevalence: prop of population at a given time with a disease or factor. Incidence: prop of the population that develops new disease or factors at a given time.
