Wallace"s line : deep ocean trench that divides two regions of the archipelago and creates a great contrast in the biodiversity that has prevented biological exchange between the two areas. What we are trying to understand in functional diversity: the kinds of trade-offs that organisms face when as they adapt to different challenges they have to meet to survive. They all photosynthesize and require water and nutrients. This is because of trade-offs to refresh, a trade-off is the relationship between the benefits of a trait in one context and its costs in another context) Principle of allocation : all life functions cannot be simultaneously maximized. But every hour that you do one of those activities, you are not devoting that time to another activity. Every organism must make decisions such as this.
