Document Summary

3:30 pm ( + a little bit of gestalt) Essentially to verify claims, you need empirical evidence. Empiricism being the highest form of evidence. In order to have a fact, you need to be able to verify it, to prove it, able to be observed multiple times in a row preferably by multiple people. Flies in the face of mental experience, innenwelt, inner world. We do not have access to someone"s inner world. Philosophy, people coming up with ideas, comparing, and seeing if the ideas fit logically enough, conflicts would provoke examination. Highly mental approach, could be used to approach complicated, big questions like, what is truth? (possibly too big of a question to be explored in cogsci) Mental approach would cause complications/issues later on. Church doctrine was regarded as truth in the 1560s, and even scientists were trying to find religious proofs.
