Document Summary

Cell bodies of somatic neurons are located in the cns. Their axons extended to skeletal muscles where they have an excitatory. Cell bodies of the preganglionic neurons are located in the cns. Their axons extended to ganglia where they synapse with postganglionic. Postganglionic axons can have an excitatory or inhibitory effect on: Most organs are innervated by both divisions. Usually each division produces an opposite effect on a given organ. The sympathetic division produces more generalized effects than the parasympathetic division. Sympathetic activity generally prepares the body for physical activity. Parasympathetic activity is more important for resting conditions. Seems to innervate everything except skeletal muscle. Excite all functions essential to removing self from current situation. Innervations similar to spns except for skin and lacrimal. Inhibitory or excitatory effects depend on organ. Responds in a very limited stereotypical fashion. As neuron recovers the acon is rebuilt into the injury site and the schwann cells wrap around the acon.
