Cerebral cortex: largely responsible for higher brain functions, including sensation, voluntary muscle movement, thought, reasoning, and memory. Cerebellum: responsible for fine motor control and balance. Glial cells: surround neurons and provide support for and insulation between them; most abundant. 3 major types of neurons: motor neurons: convey messages to skeletal motor fibers in the muscles, sensory neurons: convey info from sensory organs, interneurons: convey info from one neuron to the next.
