Document Summary

With all of that being said, there are a few ways parks and reservation can prepare for these changes and attempt to mitigate and adapt to them. Better analysis of vulnerability of geographic areas to climate change can help to better prioritize: which areas require more preparation and planning. For existing management areas: places with higher vulnerability for adaptation measures can make sure their resources have easily accessible channels to encourage better management. New areas should be acquired for climate change refugia: which are locations more resistant to climate change because of, wide climate tolerances of individual species, presence of resilient species, and other topo-geographical factors. Migration corridors for species should be better established and maintained since climate change is shifting habitat location and species are becoming fragmented. Managing for habitat type as opposed to specific species more effectively measures and conserves the vitality a functioning ecosystem.
