KNES 385 Lecture Notes - Lecture 2: Motor Skill
Document Summary
Introduction to motor contrl, motor skill, and motor abilities. How our neuromuscular system functions to activate and coordinate the muscles and limbs involved in the performance of a motor skill. The spatial and temporal patterning of body and limb motions relative to each other and to the environmental objects and events. Can have one without the other, but usually you have/lose both. Some people are more coordinated than others naturally. Specific patterns of motion among joints and body segments used to accomplish action goals. Created at the joint and then after can see the movement. Most of the time it is a goal directed movement. Action or task that has a specific goal to achieve. A skill that requires voluntary limb movement to achieve its goal. Specificity of beginning and end of action: discrete. Walking down an empty hallway: open. Sometimes causes a lot of cognition (walking with prosthetics in dc for ex)
