Highly competitive admission process for medical schools. 50% of all first year med students are women. Historically men were much more prevalent as med students. Men make ~30k more a year than females in primary care. Men make even more than women in specialty. Women more likely to take time off for childcare. More men could be with practices longer, continuing pay raises. Racial minority students comprised about 47% of medical students in 2016 and up from. But still only about 6. 5% black, hispanic about 1. 5% non citizen or non lpr. Most medical students are from upper and upper middle class families. Largely based on education able to receive prior, in better position to compete at a higher level. Increasing numbers of lower-middle and lower class students are entering medical school. If you recruit doctors from a lower served community, they are more likely to return to that area.
