It is often said that age is the great leveler it happens to everyone. As these real-life examples show, individuals experience aging differently depending on social class and ethnic background. Another important factor is an individual"s age cohort the group of people born in about the same decade. For example, women who graduated from college in the 1950s are more likely to say they regret prioritizing family over career than women who graduated in the 1970s are (newton et al. , 2012). Unlike those in the 1950s, those in the 1970s cohort grew up with second wave feminism. Many people hold a double standard of aging. They think women are old at an earlier age than men, and they see being old as more negative for women. Historically, women"s value and status often depended on their sexual attractiveness and reproductive ability. Men"s status, in contrast, was derived from their achievements.
