Document Summary
Factors required for natural selection to operate: there must be variation in the population, variations must lead to differences among individuals in lifetime reproductive success, variation must be transmitted to the next generation. These adaptive advantageous traits will allow their carriers to either produce more offspring or increase survival which will increase the opportunity for reproduction. As long as these traits are heritable, the offspring will share these adaptive traits and there will be more of these adaptive offspring in the population and the trait will spread and allele frequency will change. The makeup of the population will change because there will be more with the adaptation instead of ones without it. Adaptation- natural change that allows an organism to either survive better or reproduce more. The only ones that occur in nature are based on what"s available to be worked on. Have to be traits that are already present or appear due to mutations.
